Report on the Orientation Programme organised by the Department of Education, IISU, on September 23, 2021
The Department of Education, IISU, organised a programme for all the Semester-1 Students of the B.A.B.Ed. and B.Sc.B.Ed. Programmes (Batch 2021-22) on September 23, 2021, between 9.30 am and 11.00 am, at the Audio-Visual Auditorium in the IISU campus.
The objective was to provide the new students information about the programme, working of the Department, acquaint them with the faculty and other resources as well as to give them the confidence to make a smooth transition to the first year of college.
Ms. Aruna Mathur, Assistant Professor, Department of Education, welcomed all the faculty members and students to the programme. After a brief introduction of all the other faculty members she presented and discussed the following through a PowerPoint presentation:
She then invited Dr.Sanjay Kedia, Head of Department, to interact with the students. Dr.Kedia welcomed all the students and discussed the subject-wise credits as well as the Evaluation scheme of all the papers.
He discussed the assessment and student completion requirements as well as the structure of the National and State level Teacher Eligibility Tests (mandatory for securing Government jobs later) and motivated the students to prepare for the same simultaneously.
After this, Ms.Aruna called forward three Alumnae of the Department of Education to share their experiences with their juniors.
Ms.Nitika Pareek and Ms.Arshita Bhardwaj (batch 2016) and Ms.Shatakshi Saraswat (batch 2017) shared the usefulness of the programmes and motivated the students to feel connected and ask for any assistance without hesitation. They also briefly spoke about the campus policies and amenities.
Ms. Sharon Samson, Placement Officer, IISU was then invited to interact with the students. Ms. Sharon discussed about the activities of the placement cell of the university especially the process of campus recruitment drive. She spoke about the forthcoming campus events and how students could register themselves for the events.
At the end, an ice breaker game was held. One slide with a picture of 25 common household items was shown very briefly (for about 60 seconds) to the audience and the students were asked to make a list of the items based on their memory. Two students recollected almost 15 items and were declared winners. This exercise helped to bring some cheer among the students and facilitate conversation.
The programme ended with a formal vote of thanks. It is hoped that this orientation and the university level (online) orientation programme will help the new students to navigate their education experience smoothly and will contribute in their academic and non-academic endeavours in the university.
